Lately I've been trying to let Kara exercise her independence more and let her explore, instead of having Mama constantly watching her. I'll let her crawl anywhere she wants to go as long as I can see her. Then, if she crawls where I can't see her anymore, I'll either bring her back to where I was, or just go to where she is. She's enjoying her new-found freedom and usually will purposely crawl just out of sight and then peek back around the corner to see if I'm looking. Sometimes I'll pretend to not be watching and she'll squeal until I look at her, then she'll laugh her little head off like she just got away with something big. Kara also enjoys her new freedom because it allows her to practice her new "skills" all over the house. She loves to crawl up to stuff to see if she call "pull-up" on it. She loves standing and tries to pull up on anything that is slightly elevated (a shoe, a toy, a box, a rug etc...) Every thing is fair game for this little girl.
We have a crate by the front door, that we originally bought for Kara's toys. Then we noticed how much Charlie likes to sit on it and look outside, so I'm delaying putting the toys in it for now since we have two others crates. Today, while Kara was exploring, she found Charlie and went over to say hello. I thought it was cute so I decided to snap a couple pictures (see below.) Then I put the camera away and came back just in time to see Kara grab Charlie's recently declawed foot. Since it's still a little sore, he batted her away with his other foot. He's never done that before and it must have startled Kara because she fell straight down and skinned her chin on the crate on the way down. She only cried for a second, and was right back to tormenting Charlie. I however, was completely startled to see blood on my little babies chin and couldn't stop staring at it! Silly first time mama!!

So, I had to get the camera back out to show you her first real injury.

Kara has had a runny nose for a few days now. We thought it was allergies, but I guess not. Yesterday during SundaySchool, the nursery workers called me to come get Kara because she wouldn't stop crying. As soon as they handed her to me I noticed that she's really warm, and her skin was pinkish. She also had a runny nose and a cough. So, I fed her and then kept her with me during the service. The longer I held her the warmer and more red she got. So we left right when church was over, and took her temperature as soon as we got home. It was 103 degrees!! We called the on-call doctor from our pediatrician's office and they said to take her to the Urgent Care Center, because of course, it's Sunday and nothing else is open except the ER. The doctor looks in her ears, her throat, and up her nose, and told me exactly what I already knew: she has a high temp, a runny nose and a sore throat. So, he wrote us a prescription, and sent us on our merry way. Kara had a hard time falling asleep last night, so we put her in bed with us- which we don't really like doing, but sometimes you just have to do it. At 3:00 am I took her temp and it had dropped to 99.1. At that point she was so tired she let me put her back to sleep in her crib, and she slept there the rest of the night. This morning her temp was 98.9, so it looks like she's over the fever. I can handle a sore throat and a runny nose, but that high of a fever was scary for a first time parents!!
In other news, I almost caught our house on fire on Saturday! Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I did set my hair-dryer on fire! It shorted out while I was drying my hair, and the plug-in part started on fire. So, I turned it off and threw it on the floor (which is cement- I was in the basement) and the fire put itself out. Which is good, because I may not know much, but I do know not to throw water on an electrical fire! Preston said that the wires in the cord were weak from bending so much, and that is what caused it to short out and start on fire. It really startled me and I was shaking for long time after that. Then I got mad because only half my hair was dry!
On the bright side, I got a new hair-dryer! ;)
