Here are the pictures from when Rachel's parents and sister came to visit.
(This is technically the day before they came.)
Kara requested a "Blue Girl" cake for her birthday.
Keeping the tradition alive by licking the beater.
Isn't she a doll?
Ta-da! A Blue Girl Cake!
(I tried to make it look like Rapunzel.)
Kara made Mama Lynn, Papa Steve and Kara snowmen while waiting for her grandparents.
Elizabeth! Oh, how I've missed you!
They're here!!!
The girls were so excited to go to the airport and get them. Kara ran right up to them but Lexi was a little leery at first. She warmed up to them eventually.
For her birthday lunch she requested her favorite, "spaghetti and noodles."
She's showing me that she's 4 years old.
Blowing out the candles.
We love cake in this house.
Those of us not allergic to milk had ice-cream.
And those of us that can't have ice-cream had Fru-Bars.
Which, I'm fairly certain is the better deal.
If you haven't had Fru-Bars, you are missing out.
YUMMMM!
Then the birthday girl opened presents.
These are the presents from Auntie Lizzy.
(Look how sweet she is! I could just squeeze those cheeks all day!!)
More presents
Lexi even got a few presents.
A camera!!
Sorry Liz, I couldn't resist.
Sweet snuggles.
Working puzzles with Papa.
Hanging out.
We made up for all the holiday's we missed over the last year with an Easter egg hunt!
Finding Easter eggs.
Opening them to find the treasures within.
Playing dominos with Mama Lynn.
(The horse by Kara's foot was her birthday present from Liz. After this, Kara named him Domino.)
Then Elizabeth left so I had to take one more insulting picture of her.
Hehe. Liz, you know I love you.
Mama Lynn showed us how her grandmother (the kid's great-great-grandmother) use to make cookies.
Covered in flour... the only way to bake.
Dancing with Mama Lynn.
Reading with Papa.
Bedtime devotions.
The seminary had a church fair/picnic that we went to while Mama Lynn and Papa Steve were here.
They did face painting for the girls.
It was super hot that's why the girls look sweaty.
Kara got one on each cheek.
Those eyes!
While she had a captive audience and while Papa could play with the kiddos, Mama Lynn showed me a few tricks to sewing. (And by a few I mean, she pretty much taught me everything.)
Here's the dress she helped me make.
Kara calls it her princess dress and calls herself, "Princess Cinderella Kara."
Taking a walk.
Lexi tried to give Papa every acorn she found.
There are a lot of acorns on campus.
Photo-Op with the grandkids.
Pushing the automatic door buttons is one of the highlights of her 4 year old world.
Feeding the fish... and to Lexi's delight... the turtles!
Another photo-op.
You're looking at a loser, a winner, and two average players.
I wont bring myself further shame and I'll just leave it to your imagination who those might be.
Mama Lynn tickling the lion.
Playing with Papa.
Mama Lynn would read the alphabet book and Kara would point at things with the flashlight.
One last meal on our way to the airport.
Soaking up every last second with them.
Saying good-bye is hard to do.
Hugs all around.
Kara cried and cried when we got back in the car.
Final farewells.
~
I've shared before some of the ways that God has blessed us.
Here is another way He shows His great love to us.
We have never had to buy clothes for our girls. We have bought them clothes, yes, but only because we wanted to not because we had to. We have always been given hand-me-downs and have been storing these too-big-for-now-will-fit-later clothes for Kara since she was born, but the stock-pile ended at 4t, (the size she's been in for about 6 months now.) However, just the other day we were anonymously given, a sack full of 5t clothes. After I sorted it out, there were 11 shirts, 6 dresses, 4 shorts, some socks, and a camisole in the bag. (I literally was just telling Preston that we needed to go get her a cami to wear under some of her dresses and look! God provided!!)
Anyways, I told you that to tell you this, the shirt she is wearing in the picture below came out of that bag. It is identical to a shirt that I've owned for a while, except Kara's shirt says 2008 on it. (For those keeping track at home, that's the year she was born.)
God delights us, even in the littlest details.
Wearing daddy's boots.
Lexi may look cute and innocent but look what her hard noggin did to my cheek!
I gave Kara a hair cut.
She always seems way too old after each birthday and she always looks younger after hair cuts.
Giving her hair cuts is my little way of protesting her getting older.
Anyways, here's the before picture from the front.
After from the front.
Before from the side.
After from the side.
(See? Didn't that take at least a year off her age?)
Here's the little boy I babysit.
Oh, and here's those people.
